Definition: What is the Fair Labor Standards Act?
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which applies to most private and
public employment, provides standards for minimum wage and overtime pay, and details how covered work time must be compensated, The Fair Labor Standards Act also contains provisions related to child labor, and equal pay.
The FLSA mandates that employers pay covered employees at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay of one-and-one-half-times the regular pay rate (unless otherwise exempt).
