Workers of a textile retail outlet in the city staged a
protest in front of the Labour Department office here and submitted a
memorandum to the District Collector. They sought the intervention of
the department to hold talks with the management of the shop to ensure
labour laws were implemented.
As many as 380 workers,
including 80 women, are employed at the two shops of the retailer in
the city. The workers had submitted a memorandum to the Collector on
Monday and were expecting the Labour Department officials to hold talks
on Tuesday. Since there were no talks, the workers met the Collector
again on Tuesday.
“The officials have told us that there will be talks on Wednesday,” a worker said.
